The mission of the Dementia Friendly Community Coalition of Marinette County (DFCC) is to create a dementia friendly community that is safe, respectful, and welcoming for people living with dementia through awareness, education and community engagement.

Funded Program

Purple Angel Initiative, Comfort Bag Project, and “Grandpa and Lucy”

Purple Angel Initiative: DFCC seeks to continue expansion of dementia/cognitive education and the virtual training program materials which expands the flexibility of the training and dementia awareness.  It empowers business owners/employees and community services/programs, with information on how to recognize and assist those with dementia/cognitive impairment as well as their caregivers.

Comfort Bag Project:  The comfort bag is provided to individuals in emergency or stressful situations by helping reduce anxiety, agitation, or anger.  Comfort bags are distributed to hospitals, clinics, rescue squads, law enforcement and fire departments, banks, city halls, senior centers, senior living facilities, and the Marinette Rec Center and individuals on these teams are provided with the Purple Angel training.

"Grandpa & Lucy": This DFCC project focuses on educating our youth about dementia.  As a Girl Scout Silver Award project, Edie Weinstein (9th grade) wrote the book about people with memory loss in hopes to help youth better communicate with their loved ones, draw families closer and broaden their world. DFCC has begun working with area school systems on the project. Volunteers will offer to read the book to the children, answer questions, and a copy of the book if given to each child participating.
