Funded Program

STEM Makerspace Mobile Program: Non-profit Partnership

Participants in the mobile makerspace experience will get practice expressing their ideas creatively, using a variety of materials and equipment to solve problems and work as part of a team.  Each makerspace experience is intentionally designed to hone skills, help students develop empathy, and collaborate to bring ideas to life.  This project collaborates with local non-profits to work with youth and families in urban and rural areas, ALICE identified neighborhoods will be prioritized. As of 2022, Oconto (22%), Marinette (25%), and Menominee (35%) counties had ALICE identified households. Data from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction indicates that over 89% of the students from these neighborhoods come from economically disadvantaged households, and they are struggling to meet performance expectations on the state assessments.

Community Impact

Target Population: Marinette & Oconto Counties, WI and Menominee County, MI; primarily youth and families in areas that are most underserved. ALICE neighborhoods will be prioritized.
Number of Individuals Served: 1,000

One aim of this work is to increase both quantity and quality of experiences within both rural and urban communities.  The Einstein Project addresses the lack of interest in STEM subjects and the shortage of local talent for technical STEM positions. Local business leaders recognized that they often had to import talent from outside the region to fill these roles. To tackle this problem, the program provides engaging, hands-on science and engineering curriculum and instructional materials early in a child’s education.
