Healthy Community

We’re improving health and wellbeing for all.

Helping moms and kids stay healthy. Finding ways to stop hunger. Getting seniors to appointments.

The goal of the Health Community impact area is centered on helping individuals and their families to live healthy lives. This includes:
•    Ensuring access to healthcare services (physical, mental, dental, social services, etc.) and insurance to pay for them.
•    Improving access to healthy, nutritious food and physical activity.
•    Closing gaps and disparities in maternal health and child well-being.
•    Increasing access to safe, healthy spaces.
•    Addressing the Social Determinants of Health (e.g., employment, education, housing).

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls is a powerful reminder that many of our neighbors face daily food insecurity. Its annual return is possible because organizations, volunteers, schools, andSoup Servers local businesses have united around the belief that no one should face an empty bowl. In partnership with St. Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army, the event strengthens the frontline food pantries meeting this critical need every day.  Proceeds from the event and non-perishable food donations will support The Salvation Army (serving Marinette and Menominee Counties) and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marinette Food Pantry.  Tri-County United Way is serving as the fiscal agent for this event.

Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP)

Tri-County United Way (TCUW) has been entrusted as the local financial steward of the Emergency Food & Shelter Program funds in the Tri-County Area.  The Emergency Food and Shelter Program was created by Congress in 1983 to provide rapid assistance to communities to support basic needs such as food purchases, safe shelter, and financial assistance along with supplies and equipment essential to providing immediate food & shelter needs.  A national board consists of FEMA and several large charities such as United Way Worldwide, The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross and others.  A local board, facilitated by TCUW, then designates these award dollars to area nonprofits based on local needs and to prevent homelessness and food insecurity. For more information, visit the EFSP Website.
