The Healthy Youth Coalition of Marinette & Menominee Counties (HYC) is a youth-driven organization dedicated to preventing and reducing substance use among youth ages 12-17 within Marinette and Menominee Counties. They aim to achieve this by providing education to youth and community members, and by implementing activities proven to prevent and delay initiation drug use of alcohol, tobacco/nicotine products, marijuana, and prescription drugs.

HYC Youth Marijuana Use Prevention Media Campaign
Through a youth-informed and data-driven approach, HYC aims to increase awareness about the risks of marijuana use, address and correct misconceptions, and educate both youth and parents in the harmful effects of youth use. Campaign materials include youth-created billboard designs, social media content, posters, and public service announcements distributed in schools, community spaces, and online platforms.
Community Impact
Target Population: 7-12th grade students in public school districts in Marinette and Menominee Counties.
Number of Individuals Served: 5,000
It is hoped that the media campaigns will have increased the percentage of youth who perceive marijuana use as harmful by 3%, increased parental disapproval rates of youth marijuana use by 3%, and decreased 30-day use of marijuana among 6th - 12th grade students by 2% as measured by the 2026 youth Pride PLUS surveys. The campaign also aims to increase the age of onset of marijuana use by 0.3 years and promote youth-led messaging that empowers peers to make healthy choices by increasing media campaign messages over the next fiscal year as measured by feedback in 2026-27 youth focus groups.
