Diapers are basic necessities, as is food, shelter and clothing. Babies who remain too long in a soiled diaper are exposed to potential health risk of severe diaper rash, UTI's, as well as irritability and increased crying; therefore, parents miss work or school, further limiting economic needs such as food, shelter and utilities. Our local hospital estimated half of the babies born were born to low poverty income families. Childcare centers, require parents to provide a day's supply of disposable diapers. Parents who can't afford to provide required disposable diapers for childcare, often leave the workforce until their children are out of diapers.
